The 10 Most Marvelous Maknaes in K-Pop

The 10 Most Marvelous Maknaes in K-Pop
Being the maknae (youngest member) of any K-Pop act can be daunting. You need to know when to stand up for yourself against bossy older members, and when to toe the line to avoid rocking the boat. Sometimes, if you have talent, it can be hard to show it off, knowing that you may face resentment from your seniors if you do so.
That is not always the case, however. Dal Shabet’s most junior member, Subin, recently demonstrated her hitherto-unknown songwriting and production skills, co-writing and producing the entirety of her group’s latest mini album, perhaps proving once and for all that you should never write off a maknae just because of their age!
So join us as we look at ten of the most talented and all-round wonderful wunderkinds in the world of K-Pop – the most marvelous maknaes out there!
Super Junior’s Kyuhyun
Kyuhyun
What can be said about Kyuhyun that has not already been said? Easily one of the best additions to any K-Pop act, at the tender age of 27, he has pretty much done it all already.
Kyuhyun1
An accomplished musical star (appearing in musicals such as “The Three Musketeers,” “Robin Hood” and “Singin’ in the Rain”), in-demand TV show host, and chart-topping solo singer, it is easy to forget some of his achievements as a member of SM The Ballad
…as well as his collaborations with the likes of Henry and, more recently, Lee Moon Sae.
Oh, and he’s also a member of Super Junior, one of the biggest K-Pop acts in history. Does he find the time to sleep?
SHINee’s Taemin
taemin
Another chart-topping solo singer in his own right, Taemin might be SHINee’s maknae, but he is certainly one of the groups’ standout personalities. Although there is no way of measuring things like this, I would hazard a guess that he may also be the group’s most popular member, although the rest of SHINee might beg to differ!

Musically, visually, and dance-wise Taemin’s debut mini-album last year “Ace” lived up to its name. Fans will fondly recall his “High Kick 3: Revenge of the Short-Legged” cameo in 2011, as well as his brief acting spree in “Dating Agency: Cyrano.” There was also this:
B.A.P’s Zelo
Zelo
Zelo might be the youngest member of B.A.P, but for some fans, he is the act’s stand-out individual, and not just because he has the coolest name. His project release with Bang Yong Guk was one of the best uptempo rap songs of 2011, and he has risen to become the act’s lead rapper.
This Song Ji Eun collaboration was as much fun for B.A.P fans as it was forSecret enthusiasts.

Just like Dal Shabet’s Subin, he towers over the rest of his bandmates, earning himself the nickname “Giant Baby.” He also happens to be a gifted dancer.

And he was already proving that he had talent when he was only this old:

He originally intended to make his name as a soccer player, but thankfully for K-Pop fans, he shelved his sporting dreams in favor of a career in music.
BTS’s Jungkook
Jungkook
If your nickname is “GoldMak” (Golden Maknae), you had better live up to it. Fortunately for Jungkook, he has done just that. A talented dancer

Jungkook adds a cute and playful edge to what is easily one of the most entertaining all-male K-Pop acts out there.
2PM’s Chansung
Chansung
Female K-Pop fans have been in wonderland since 2PM debuted, and youngest member Chansung’s impressive physique has played no small part in his own (and possibly the group’s) enormous popularity. However, there is nothing easy about looking good, and Chansung takes his workout regime so seriously that he even owns his own gym, in partnership with his weight trainer, and the results have been noticeable to say the least…
Chansung1
Located in Seoul’s exclusive Nonhyun district (handily only a stone’s throw away from JYP Entertainment’s HQ), Chansung officially opened his gym in 2012, amid a shower of accolades from his friends and bandmates.

However, Chansung has managed to couple brains and brawn, and has also managed to develop an acting career and has even learned Japanese to the level where he was even cast as an all-action tough guy in a Japanese drama series for mega-channel TBS.

And by the way, if you just can’t get enough of Chansung, there is always this.
2NE1’s Minzy
Minzy
Moving onto the girls now – there are few better dancers out there period, so you just knew Minzy was going to make the list as soon as you saw this article’s title.
Despite her youth, Minzy has never looked out of place in 2NE1, despite the fact that she debuted alongside much older bandmates. She is only three years younger than CL, but she is a mere pup compared to Park Bom and Dara, who are both ten years her senior. She can rap, she can sing, but her forte is most certainly her ability to boogie on down.

This is still my favorite 2NE1 (or 2NE1 subunit) track. So much fierceness, so much fun, and Minzy is at the heart of it all.

Dal Shabet’s Subin
Subin
The rest of Dal Shabet must be wishing they had a bit of whatever it is that Subinseems to have in spades. She was a great, energetic host of the ever-fun TV music show “Music Talk Talk Ma Bling,” and has also had a range of other TV roles. But it seems that Subin’s talents are not just restricted to exhibiting her bubbly personality and looking good, no matter what her hair color may be.
Subin2
Earlier this month, she stunned the K-Pop world when she was revealed as the co-songwriter and producer of the latest Dal Shabet album “Joker Is Alive,” which features the delightfully controversial title track “Joker.” And, actually, the rest of the mini album is actually an incredibly diverse and fun piece of work (“Addict” is my personal favorite, and might have made an even better lead track).

Subin said of the album “certain aspects could have been better.” Well, if that is the case, we will all wait with bated breath for her next musical effort.
miss A’s Suzy
Suzy
You cannot watch more than ten minutes of television in Korea without coming across an ad starring the unofficial CF Queen of the country, Suzy. At the tender age of 20, she has already achieved more than most stars might in a lifetime, including teaming up with the likes of Lee Seung Gi for top-level drama projects.

However, not content with just being a member of one of the biggest girl groups around, a movie star, a drama actress and the darling of variety and reality show casting directors, she has also found time to become the muse of this guy:
Lee Min Ho
Lee Min Ho, who just happens to be one of the most popular actors in the whole continent.
Since debuting with miss A in 2010, Suzy’s popularity has soared year after year, and has even gone global. The Sina Weibo Night Awards committee even bestowed her with its prestigious “Goddess Award” earlier this year. Less of a mere maknae, Suzy is more like a force of nature.
Girl’s Day’s Hyeri
Hyeri
Also at only 20 years old, Hyeri is already TV royalty, and possibly the most popular member of a very popular girl group, no easy feat when you consider that her bandmates include the vocal talents of Minah and Sojin, as well as the much-beloved Yura.
Hyeri2
But MBC’s military-themed reality TV show “Real Men” unleashed a tidal wave of new-found affection for Hyeri when Girl’s Day’s youngest member was cast in the female soldiers special episodes of the show, leading to a cuteness overload episode that went viral.

Now you can barely walk down the street without seeing images of Hyeri dressed in combat gear, advertising something or other. Whenever Girl’s Day gets around to making a comeback, the charts may well implode.
Rainbow’s Hyunyoung
Hyunyoung1
There have been two Rainbow subunits, but Hyunyoung was included in both, because, let’s face it, if you are talking Rainbow, you are probably talking Hyunyoung. She is an ever-in-demand model, and has appeared on the front cover of men’s magazines:
Hyunyoung maxim
As well as promoting video games:
Hyunyoung Black Squad
However, Hyunyoung spent much of last year proving that she is more than just a pretty face, teaming up with rapper Sool J for a great (if slightly under-the-radar) collaboration track called “Honey.”

She also tried her hand at co-hosting a TV show – “Girl’s Wiki,” with groupmateJisook, with whom she also recorded a song for the “Blade Man” soundtrack.
More surprisingly, though, she also moonlights as a songwriter and producer, and co-wrote/arranged this ultra-smooth track for R&B star Kye Bum Joo’s “24” album last year, under the pseudonym “Heidi.”
Well, you’ve read our list, now it’s over to you, Soompiers! Who is your favorite K-Pop maknae and why? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.

10 of the Greatest “Running Man”

10 of the Greatest “Running Man” Episodes of All Time
Running Man,” the immensely popular South Korean show, has gained fans worldwide with their unique combination of athletic competitions and zany humor. The cast members all have a witty sense of humor, a fierce sense of competition, and a great relationship with each other. Added to this mixture are amazing guests almost every episode and new games that still keep you entertained after almost 250 episodes! Millions of people tune in every week to watch the program, but somehow there are still people out there who have yet to watch this fantastic show! If you are one of these people, then it’s past time you found out why fans are so addicted by watching the episodes on this list.
For most fans, it would be impossible to choose the absolute best episode ever because they are all super funny and entertaining. In addition, you might like some episodes more than others if your favorite cast member happens to be the “star” of that episode. Whatever episodes you would choose as your favorites, though, hopefully we can all agree that this list includes 10 of the Greatest “Running Man” Episodes of All Times!
yoo jae suk MC yoo running man
This is one of my all-time favorite episodes because of a few certain moments which left me laughing hysterically. In this episode, Yoo Jae Suk acted as an MC instead of a participant in the race. The popular idol groups of 2NE1 and2PM were guests on the show, along with artists Jo Jung Chi,  Yoon Jong Shin, and Muzy. Apart from the entertaining race and Gary‘s epically funny mistake, the real star of this episode was Yoo Jae Suk’s horrendously ugly shirt.

I wasn’t expecting much from this episode since it was full of well-known, popular actresses that I assumed wouldn’t be very competitive. However, from the very first second the show started, I realized it was actually going to be one of the funniest episodes ever! My favorite game in this episode was the mud fight, where poor Kwang Soo ended up as a step-ladder for the competitive female guests. Even the regular cast members were surprised to see these funny ladies get downright ferocious in their desire to win.
rm3
With the cast of the drama “My Lovely Girl” as the guest stars, this episode gave us some of the best moments in “Running Man” history as the two groups competed against each in a vocal competition. Considering that singers Rain andKrystal were in this episode, it might surprise you that the “Running Man” cast were actually the ones to bring viewers one of the most entertaining singing moments we have ever seen! Don’t believe me? Check it out. It involved some of the “Running Man” members in drag and with a face full of makeup. Special note:Lee Kwang Soo makes for a surprisingly pretty woman!
4- Running Man Episode 188: Adventure in Australia (along with episodes 189 and 191)
rm4
Although this three-episode special got off to a slow start, it proved to be really entertaining as it all progressed. The “Running Man” cast and guests Rain and Kim Woo Bin traveled to Australia to accomplish a multitude of tasks. Whether scuba-diving for treasure or traveling back to gold-mining days, this special provided viewers with a lot of laughs. My favorite moments from this special? Seeing world stars like Rain and Woo Bin dressed up like kangaroos, Lee Kwang Soo teaching the innocent Kim Woo Bin how to cheat in order to win, and Yoo Jae Sukand Ji Suk Jin attempting to thread beads despite their absolute terror on a small plane ride over the ocean.

This episode had so many laugh out loud moments, especially to those who are a fan of the super funny Kwangsoo. According to the plot, the world had been infected by a horrible virus which took away the laughter and happiness of people. “Running Man” members had to find the anecdote and return laughter to mankind before becoming infected themselves. Kwangsoo was infected by the virus and spent the remainder of the episode in a complete “rage,” giving the viewers some of the most entertaining moments of the entire episode. Along with a clever plot and a cool setting, this episode is definitely worth the watch!
rm6
This episode starts out by showing all the male cast members (with the exception of Gary) choosing to be on the team with the guest, the famous actress Choi Ji Woo. Knowing this was how things would turn out if the members could choose their own team, the producers of the show had a surprise in store for Song Ji Hyo(the captain of the other team). They brought four gorgeous young men to be on her team- Jung Yong Hwa and Lee Jong Hyun of CNBLUE, Lee Kikwang ofBEAST, and rapper Simon D. From their hysterical race on the beach to an entertaining game of dodgeball, this was one of “Running Man’s” classic episodes.
rm7
Actress Song Ji Hyo is a beautiful and talented woman, but sometimes the other cast members forget to appreciate her fully since they see her every week. With guest stars G-Dragon, Daesung, and Seungri of BIGBANG, this episode turns Ji Hyo into a princess for a day and provides us with a lot of laughs as everyone tries to win her heart. Some of the funniest moments occur when their world-famous guests get absolutely covered in mud while playing a game in a flooded field. Plus, Gary gives Song Ji Hyo a kiss and automatically makes it one of the best episodes ever.
rm8
This hilarious episode starts with everyone as students in high school, including their guest Suzy of miss A. After some lighthearted, fun games around the school building, things suddenly take a darker turn. The members must find out which of the students are part of the couple fated to be together. Armed with several clues each, they race around in search of magical mirrors which give them clues. The twist? Scary announcements are made occasionally, telling the students things like one of them will die if they look behind them or one of them will be out if they scream. With these ominous warnings, hilarity ensues as the members desperately search for the answers in the dark, creepy building, while being terrified to turn their heads or do any of the other actions heard in the warnings.
rm9
This was the first of the “Running Man” episodes to allow the members to use “super powers.” Part of the Christmas special, the episode starts off with the usual banter and fun between the cast. Soon though, the producers put everyone in separate rooms where they down a special potion which gives them a super power. From the ability to control time to having four clones to help you in the game, each super power is pretty awesome and leaves the members scared to eliminate one another without knowing their special ability.
rm10
This episode is one of the classics for fans of “Running Man.” Since it was the end of the year, the “Running Man” members go to a meeting with a producer and complain about the rough treatment during the past year. Presenting their demands for changes, they complain of things like having to change their underwear four times in one day or smelling like frogs due to all the water games. As a result, the producers challenge them to a special episode- the tasks are extremely challenging, but if “Running Man” can accomplish them, the staff will get punished themselves with a dump in cold water. Apart from the typical funny moments, there are also some places that will make you teary-eyed. This is an episode not to be missed!
Although there are literally hundreds of fantastic, funny “Running Man” episodes, these are definitely 10 great episodes that will make you laugh and fall in love with each one of the cast members. Despite their betrayals, lies, and determination to eliminate each other, the love and friendship between each member is evident after all these years of filming together. Their camaraderie and sense of humor is what really makes this show so great. There isn’t enough space to talk about all of our favorite episodes, but rest assured that there are plenty more to keep you laughing.
